The role of Customs Specialist, Entry Writer at DSV is based in Salt Lake City, USA, within the Air & Sea Division. This is a full-time position with an hourly wage range of $22.25 to $30.00, which will be determined based on the candidate's experience, skills, geographic location, and other business considerations. The Customs Specialist is a critical role focusing on managing customs-related processes to ensure full compliance with customs regulations across domestic and international borders. Primary responsibilities include preparing and reviewing customs documentation such as import and export declarations, ensuring tariff classification, valuation, and country of origin requirements are met, and coordinating with internal teams, clients, customs brokers, and government agencies to resolve customs-related issues promptly and efficiently. The role demands continuous monitoring of customs clearances and active management to prevent delays or disputes that could affect the timely delivery of goods.
This position requires the Specialist to stay updated with changes in customs regulations, trade agreements, and industry practices to maintain compliance and enhance operational efficiency constantly. Additionally, the position involves conducting audits and reviews to assess adherence to customs requirements, guiding and supporting colleagues regarding customs matters, and participating in customs-related programs such as C-TPAT (Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) or AEO (Authorized Economic Operator). The role contributes substantially to minimizing clearance delays and maximizing supply chain efficiency within DSV's transportation and logistics services.
Candidates applying for this role should have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in customs operations or customs brokerage, with strong knowledge of customs regulations, import and export operations, and customs clearance procedures. A background in international trade or supply chain management is highly advantageous, notably with a bachelor’s degree or relevant certification in customs compliance. The Specialist must also demonstrate excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines. Proficiency in customs management software and systems, coupled with strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications, is essential.
