The Facilities Maintenance Worker I position is a full-time role that offers a schedule of Thursday through Monday from 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM with two permanent days off on Tuesday and Wednesday. Before transitioning to shift hours, new hires undergo a one-month training from Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The starting pay for this role is competitive, at $23.4125 per hour or approximately $48,697.96 annually. This position is fundamentally responsible for the maintenance and repair of all airport buildings, focusing particularly on HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems. The Facilities Maintenance Worker I plays a vital role in ensuring that Norfolk International Airport’s infrastructure remains in optimal working condition, contributing to the seamless operation and safety of airport facilities.
Key responsibilities encompass assisting departmental personnel with building equipment maintenance, replacing HVAC filters, changing light bulbs, performing daily equipment checks, and cleaning as necessary to maintain the airport’s appearance and functionality. The role also involves snow removal operations, highlighting the need for physical endurance and the ability to operate heavy machinery such as snowplows and forklifts. Candidates must have good organizational and communication skills, basic computer proficiency, and a high degree of attention to detail. The ideal candidate will possess strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities and have at least two years of general building maintenance experience. Additionally, the position requires the ability to meet stringent driving record standards and the capability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
