We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and organized Event Coordinator to join our Michaels store team in Fairbanks, AK. This role is vital in creating memorable, stress-free, and fun experiences for our guests by planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events, including children's birthday parties and craft classes. As an Event Coordinator, you will be responsible for engaging with clients of all ages—from young children to seniors—to foster an atmosphere of creativity and enjoyment. In addition to managing events, you will provide exceptional customer service by assisting shoppers, facilitating a smooth checkout process, and supporting various store operational activities such as merchandise stocking and truck unloading.
The Event Coordinator will handle all aspects of event planning including organizing party add-ons like goody bags and balloons, instructing participants in craft projects, face painting, and more. You will communicate effectively with clients and store staff to adjust and tailor events based on client feedback, ensuring every event meets the high standard of satisfaction expected at Michaels. Administrative tasks like answering emails, making phone calls, and completing relevant paperwork will also be part of your daily routine.
Beyond event management, this position involves performing store operational duties such as maintaining store recovery standards, participating in merchandise stocking, supporting shrink and safety programs, and adhering to company policies and procedures. Cross-training in custom framing selling and production will enhance your versatility within the store. You will also contribute to maintaining store cleanliness and safety, both before and after events and throughout the daily store operations.
The ideal candidate will be energetic with excellent interpersonal skills, experience working with children and organizing children’s events, and strong communication capabilities. Retail or customer service experience is required, along with the ability to handle job-related stress and effectively interact with a diverse customer base and team members. Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, moving throughout the store, lifting heavy boxes, and using ladders when necessary.
