World Wide Wings is a dynamic restaurant franchise focused on delivering exceptional dining experiences by combining flavorful cuisine with excellent customer service. As part of a global franchise, World Wide Wings prides itself on operational excellence, quality food, and a vibrant atmosphere that appeals to a wide range of guests. Founded on principles of teamwork and community engagement, this restaurant chain continues to expand its footprint while maintaining a strong commitment to employee development and guest satisfaction. They operate multiple departments within their locations, each managed by specialized department managers who work collaboratively to ensure smooth daily operations, high-quality service and product standards, and profitable growth.
The Department Manager role at World Wide Wings is a pivotal leadership position that demands hands-on management skills, strong communication, and a deep understanding of restaurant operations. This role encompasses three primary departmental focuses: Heart of House (HOH), Bar, and Hospitality. Each specialization carries unique responsibilities and areas of oversight but shares the common goals of maintaining safety, managing labor and revenue effectively, and fostering a positive work environment for team members. The Department Managers serve as key players assisting the General Manager with onsite supervision and management on a shift-by-shift basis, ensuring that all facets of the restaurant meet company standards and guest expectations.
For Heart of House Department Managers, responsibilities revolve around food and product management, staff planning, and team member development within the kitchen and food preparation area. These managers are accountable for food quality standards, recipe adherence, inventory control, food cost management, and the smooth operation of all HOH equipment. The Bar Department Manager focuses on managing adult beverage operations including inventory and ordering, Responsible Alcohol Service compliance, and developing bar staff like bartenders and bar servers. The Hospitality Manager oversees dining room service, team member planning and motivation, and ensures a welcoming guest experience in the front of house.
The role requires creating staffing schedules within labor budgets, conducting performance appraisals, coordinating training and development programs, and fostering team motivation through incentive programs and contests. Department Managers are also responsible for product quality control by managing vendor relationships and ensuring the highest standards of food and beverage products are upheld. They actively engage in resolving guest complaints related to food quality and overall guest experience, utilizing the company's Guest Experience Management system to provide ongoing feedback and adjust operations as needed.
Operational excellence is key in this role, including adherence to health and safety regulations, conducting administrative functions such as invoice entry and inventory management, and maintaining all department equipment in good working order. Department Managers also analyze performance metrics like profit and loss statements, quality service scores, and audits to identify and address problem areas with actionable plans.
The position demands strong organizational and leadership skills to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced restaurant environment. Candidates should have a minimum of two years of restaurant or retail management experience, with experience managing a restaurant with a full bar preferred. High school education or equivalent is required, along with a valid driver's license for travel between units, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly. The role is well compensated, with a competitive pay range of $18.00 to $27.40 per hour, reflecting the level of responsibility and expertise required.
Working conditions involve a mix of physical demands including standing for prolonged periods, walking throughout the restaurant, lifting and carrying items, and computer-based administrative tasks. Environmental factors include working indoors in a fast-paced, climate-controlled restaurant setting as well as occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions for property inspection and maintenance tasks. Candidates must be adaptable to work irregular hours, nights, weekends, and holidays, and be prepared for on-call availability.
