University Housing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a dynamic and integral part of the campus community, dedicated to providing exceptional dining and culinary services for residents, students, faculty, staff, and visitors. As part of the University Housing Dining and Culinary Services team, the department offers a diverse range of affordable meal options made from locally sourced ingredients, innovative dining experiences, and a commitment to sustainable practices. This includes marketplace-style dining venues across six campus buildings, convenience stores, coffeehouses, franchises, catering services, and a Central Production and Bakery operation. Additionally, the department manages a 1-acre Campus Farm within the Eagle Heights Community Garden that supplies fresh vegetables used in menus, grab-and-go items, and the Electric Eats Food Truck, emphasizing the importance of fresh, farm-to-table ingredients. The Food Service Supervisor role within this environment is a leadership position responsible for overseeing the production of safe, quality food in a high-volume, fast-paced student residential dining and catering setting. The supervisor ensures adherence to predetermined menus, production sheets, and recipes while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations and policies. Candidates in this role should excel in culinary skills and customer service, providing guidance and support to student workers and food service staff, and ensuring that all food products meet stringent quality and safety standards. Responsibilities include preparing and cooking food (including display cooking), managing catering logistics, interacting with customers in English to provide product knowledge and accommodate allergen requirements, and driving food delivery trucks as needed to transport staff and supplies efficiently. This full-time, regular, ongoing position typically involves working five 8-hour shifts per week, which may fall on any day of the week, including weekends with possible rotation. Work schedules are flexible and may adjust seasonally, especially during summer and winter breaks to align with operational and customer needs. The job requires on-site work at designated campus locations, contributing directly to the vibrant community atmosphere found in University Housing dining facilities. The compensation for this role starts at $22.50 per hour or higher based on candidate qualifications, with added benefits such as night and weekend shift differentials, a complimentary meal for every shift, and a $1,000 referral bonus for hiring referrals.
