The role available is that of a Line Cook, a crucial position within the kitchen brigade responsible for preparing and cooking food items with meticulous attention to cleanliness, sanitation, quality standards, taste, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness. The position demands a dedicated cook who respects fellow team members and the hotel’s operational environment. This role is typically full-time and can require working nights, weekends, overnight shifts, and holidays depending on the hotel's service schedule.
As a Line Cook, you will be tasked with controlling the quality and consistency of all food served from your assigned station, ensuring all preparation lists and supplies are ready before service begins. You will actively participate in controlling food costs by handling and storing food properly and safely and produce orders quickly and consistently per established standards. Proficiency with all basic cooking techniques, such as sautéing, braising, poaching, grilling, frying, and steaming, is essential. The job requires a solid knowledge of kitchen tools and equipment operation, including knives, pots, pans, stoves, ovens, grills, slicers, and steamers.
Maintaining the kitchen's cleanliness is also a core part of the responsibilities, including cleaning tasks like sweeping, mopping, washing dishes, and waste disposal. Furthermore, the role includes potential duties such as assisting with food service in the staff cafeteria, working on special banquet stations involving carving meats or preparing customized orders like omelets and desserts, and supporting other hotel kitchen operations as needed.
The person filling this position should demonstrate punctuality, wear the full appropriate uniform at all times, communicate effectively with chefs and team members, and adhere strictly to hotel policies and safety standards. Respect for colleagues, kitchen equipment, and customers is paramount, and participation in departmental meetings and training sessions is expected to keep skills up to date and to promote teamwork.
