The role available is for a Cook who will play a crucial part in the daily operations of the kitchen, responsible for preparing food for serving and maintaining food service equipment and facilities. This position requires adherence to published standards concerning production quality, sanitation, and maintenance. The Cook will conduct frequent inspections to guarantee these standards are consistently met, including checking dry stores and refrigerated foods for optimum storage conditions. Under the guidance of the Lead Cook, the individual will manage personnel, equipment, supplies, and food preparation necessary for meal service.
Successful candidates will demonstrate skillful techniques in food preparation to ensure meals are both palatable and visually appealing while minimizing waste. Responsibilities extend beyond cooking to include preparing or reviewing food service records and reports, estimating food quantities to meet menu requirements, requisitioning supplies, and tasting and inspecting prepared foods to maintain quality. The job involves cooking or garnishing foods that require more advanced culinary skills such as roasts, stews, soups, and sauces.
This position requires a high school diploma and practical cooking experience in quantity and quality cooking or baking. The ability to work cohesively with the Lead Cook with minimal supervision is essential. Candidates must be proficient in reading and preparing meals using recipe cards. As a part of the job's logistical requirements, a valid South Carolina Driver's License is necessary, and the capacity to work weekends is required. The role benefits those who possess knowledge of the procurement, storage, preparation, distribution, and serving of food products, as well as dietetic principles related to menu planning for nutritional adequacy and dietary balance.
