The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas, known as METRO, is a leading public transportation provider headquartered in Houston, Texas. This particular role focuses on enhancing the accessibility and user experience of METRO's paratransit service, METROLift. The position is essential in ensuring compliance with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines by managing the appeals process for paratransit eligibility and service suspensions. The successful candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for customers navigating appeals, providing detailed information and support throughout the process. Beyond administrative responsibilities, the role extends to educating and training customers on safe travel methods across METRO's bus and rail systems. The position involves active community outreach, including workshops and presentations at schools, senior centers, churches, retirement homes, transportation fairs, and various professional groups. The role demands close collaboration with METROLift Appeals Hearing Officers and participation in multiple advisory committees such as the METRO Accessible Task Force and the METROLift Advisory Committee, aimed at improving transit accessibility and customer satisfaction. The employee will maintain comprehensive files and databases tracking appeals, final decisions, and related correspondence to ensure adherence to regulatory timelines and accuracy. Travel training responsibilities include individualized and group coaching on effective utilization of local bus and rail routes, with careful evaluation and planning to meet the unique needs of each customer. Safety is paramount within METRO’s operations, and this role supports the agency's commitment to the Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP) by applying Safety Management System (SMS) principles daily to promote accident reduction and heightened safety awareness. The job requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, customer service excellence, and the ability to work efficiently within a diverse team environment. This is a full-time position based in Houston, TX, offering a competitive pay range between $48,400 and $63,600 annually.
  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • minimum five years’ experience in a customer service environment and experience working with people with disabilities
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license
  • must meet METRO’s requirements regarding motor vehicle records
  • knowledge and understanding of ADA regulations
  • Trapeze Paratransit PASS program proficiency preferred
