The Facilities Serviceperson role at Broward County Public Schools is integral to maintaining safety, cleanliness, and operational excellence within school buildings and other district facilities. This position involves performing semi-skilled custodial duties such as mopping, scrubbing, stripping, refinishing, and other cleaning tasks to uphold custodial standards. The role requires operating various labor-saving devices including floor scrubbers, wet and dry vacuums, and floor stripping and waxing machines, ensuring all assigned spaces like cafeterias, restrooms, offices, gymnasiums, halls, and outside areas meet cleanliness and orderliness criteria. Additionally, this role requires physically demanding activities such as heavy lifting, including moving trash to dumpsters and transporting school furniture. The Facilities Serviceperson must also conduct routine maintenance activities like replacing light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, fuses, and air conditioning filters, cleaning vents, and minor repair work on furniture and fixtures. Safety is a priority in this role, with the incumbent responsible for practicing and promoting adherence to safety rules, maintaining equipment properly, and identifying any existing structural or mechanical issues that need servicing. The position involves frequent interaction with team members and supervisors, requiring good communication skills, tact, and professionalism. The employment type for this position is classified as nonexempt with a pay grade of FA1401, offering hourly wages ranging from $15.84 to $27.29, plus a night shift differential. New hires typically start at the minimum of the salary range. Ideal candidates will complete the Basic Facilities Service job-related training and certification provided by the district during the probationary period.
