The Custodian is responsible for daily cleaning tasks within public areas, administrative offices, restrooms, and specific behind-the-scenes animal care areas. This comprehensive cleaning effort is conducted while rigorously following sanitation and safety protocols to preserve a healthy atmosphere throughout the zoo premises. Alongside these cleaning responsibilities, the Custodian also assists with grounds maintenance and special event support when needed. This position reports directly to the Grounds Maintenance Superintendent, Manager, and Zoo Director, emphasizing its importance within the zoo's operational framework. The role requires a hands-on approach, including indoor and outdoor cleaning duties such as trash and recycling removal, restroom upkeep, and managing cleaning supply inventories. The Custodian must maintain a daily log and records to document cleaning activities accurately. Flexibility in working hours is necessary, with requirements extending to weekends, holidays, and varied weather conditions. Physical demands include standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and reaching.
