Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) is a vibrant and essential part of Indiana University Bloomington's campus life, operated under the Office of Student Life. The Office of Student Life is dedicated to ensuring a positive, safe, healthy, and meaningful experience for every Indiana University student. As part of this mission, the IMU itself is a dynamic hub covering nearly 500,000 square feet and hosting more than 10,000 meetings and events annually. Its spaces serve as popular destinations for studying, social gatherings, recreational activities like bowling and pool, and various other student engagements. The IMU not only supports student organizations and leadership development through its Student Involvement and Leadership Center but also fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors. The Set-up Coordinator position at the Indiana Memorial Union plays a critical role in the smooth execution of these many events and activities. This role involves managing the preparation and arrangement of event spaces to ensure they are welcoming and functional for a broad array of purposes, ranging from informal student gatherings to formal conferences and large-scale meetings. The coordinator leads the setup operations by guiding a team of part-time student staff members, coordinating the placement and movement of necessary equipment such as tables, chairs, staging, and audiovisual devices, and handling technical setups. Effective communication with clients throughout the duration of events is also a key element, ensuring their needs are met and any issues promptly addressed. The Set-up Coordinator thus contributes significantly to creating successful event experiences that align with the IMU’s standards of service and hospitality.
This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual who can adapt to a fast-paced environment and manage logistical demands with flexibility, especially during evenings and weekends when most events occur. With an advertised salary of $17.51 per hour, this full-time, in-person position based in Bloomington, Indiana, demands 40 hours per week with essential flexibility in scheduling. - High school diploma or equivalent
- One year of set-up or facility support experience
- Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire
- Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner
- Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools used to perform job duties
- Ability to operate machinery and equipment including public address systems, audio/visual equipment, spotlights, projectors, screens, overheads, cordless microphones, electrical lighting equipment, and basic hand tools
- Ability to interpret blueprints or other sketches and drawings
- Ability to operate a computer
