The role of the Drug Abatement Representative at Alaska Airlines is a critical position responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and company drug and alcohol testing policies. This position requires administering drug test collections and alcohol testing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year according to the employee’s work schedule and geographic location. The Drug Abatement Rep coordinates directly with the local collection teams to ensure that all designated tests are completed efficiently and within required time frames. This role offers flexible scheduling where the individual determines their working hours based on test demands at the assigned location, which can vary significantly from week to week, ranging from less than 5 hours to over 40 hours per week. The position is versatile and demands the ability to work at various hours including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional overnight stays. The Drug Abatement Rep maintains strict adherence to federal regulations such as 49 CFR Part 40 and 14 CFR Part 120 while implementing Alaska Airlines’ Drug and Alcohol Policy. Duties include enforcing direct-observation specimen collections, scheduling tests covering complex and varied employee work hours, guiding frontline leaders in drug and alcohol testing scenarios, maintaining accurate documentation, ordering testing supplies, and providing expert testimony when needed. This role also requires travel flexibility and the ability to physically engage in tasks that may involve lifting objects up to 40 pounds and performing extensive physical movement such as walking and standing for long periods. Alaska Airlines seeks candidates who are detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision. Effective communication skills, the ability to deescalate tense situations, and maintaining confidentiality are essential qualities for success in this role. A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of service-oriented or related work experience are required. Additionally, living within a reasonable distance from the designated airport location is necessary to support multiple drug testing needs during the day as operations demand.
