The role of Hotel General Manager (HGM) aboard American Cruise Lines’ vessels is a prestigious and critical management position responsible for overseeing all aspects of the guest experience on the ship. As the senior hotel officer, the HGM manages daily operations related to hospitality, customer service, housekeeping, and food and beverage services. This position involves supervising and evaluating a diverse shipboard hotel management team which includes the Assistant Hotel Manager, Housekeeping Manager, Restaurant Manager, Cruise Director, Excursions Director, Executive Chef, and Guest Service Coordinator. The HGM acts as the primary representative of American Cruise Lines to guests and is tasked with upholding the highest standards of service excellence and guest satisfaction throughout the voyage.
The Hotel General Manager ensures that all shipboard employees adhere to approved company procedures and service standards, covering dining, culinary, housekeeping, shore excursions, onboard enrichment activities, guest services, crew morale, and training programs. They are accountable for the overall performance of the Hotel Department, including operational and financial management such as hotel and food inventories, shipboard business transactions, accounting, and reporting to the home office. Constant interaction with guests is a hallmark of the role, requiring the HGM to anticipate guest needs, respond promptly to requests, and resolve any issues efficiently. The HGM must maintain a visible and active presence during meal services, cocktail hours, and onboard events, demonstrating leadership and embodying the company’s values of hospitality, professionalism, and safety. - 3+ years of hotel or food and beverage management experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business or hospitality management is preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications
- Willing to live and work aboard the ship
- Ability to meet moderate physical demands, including lifting, bending, climbing, and long periods of walking or standing
- Ability to satisfactorily pass US Coast Guard regulated pre-employment drug test and periodic consortium testing
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
