The Housekeeping Worker position at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center falls under the Environmental Services Department and is a vital frontline role that ensures patient and clinical areas are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and safety. This hourly role offers a competitive wage of $19.98 per hour and operates on a day shift schedule from 7 AM to 3 PM. As a Housekeeping Worker, you will be responsible for cleaning and supplying patient rooms, nursing stations, and ancillary areas in accordance with the Medical Center’s standards and departmental procedures. This entails a variety of duties such as cleaning floors, carpets, and high-touch surfaces; collecting and disposing of waste including regulated medical waste; maintaining housekeeping closets and supplies; and performing patient discharge cleaning using a defined 7-step procedure to ensure infection control and patient safety. This role not only helps create a clean and comfortable environment for patients and staff but also plays an important part in supporting the Medical Center’s operational objectives by maintaining clinical areas in a patient-ready state at all times. Attention to detail is critical, as housekeepers must monitor material supplies like paper towels, toilet paper, soaps, and ensure disposables like toilet seat bands and privacy curtains are correctly placed in patient rooms. The Housekeeping Worker must also be proactive in identifying equipment or building maintenance needs and reporting them promptly. This position offers an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected healthcare organization committed to employee development, diversity, and creating a supportive work environment. Prior experience in hospital housekeeping is preferred but not required, and successful completion of general and department-specific orientation is mandatory for incumbents.
