This position is part of the Environmental Management Services Division at the Fargo VA Medical Center and plays an essential role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the facility for veterans and their families. The Environmental Service Technician (EVS Tech) or Housekeeping Aid is responsible for performing a wide variety of janitorial and custodial services. Duties include textile distribution and inventory, sanitizing and disinfecting patient and common areas, managing waste removal, and cleaning various hard-to-reach surfaces such as blinds, windows, and walls. The role also involves polishing furniture, fixtures, and floors, along with discharge cleaning and floor maintenance activities like sweeping, scrubbing, and applying finishes.
As a key member of the healthcare support team, the EVS Tech ensures that all patient areas and facilities are maintained to the highest standards of hygiene, helping to create a safe and welcoming environment that supports healing. The position requires physical endurance as it includes continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, and operating heavy powered cleaning equipment. The ability to pay close attention to detail and exercise this physical dexterity is vital due to the exposure to infectious materials and the need to adhere to strict safety protocols.
This is a full-time role offering shifts from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm or from 3:30 pm to midnight. The work environment is primarily indoors with adequate lighting, ventilation, and temperature controls, though occasional outdoor work exposing employees to various weather conditions may be necessary. Personal protective equipment is provided and required to reduce exposure to potential hazards like contagious diseases and hazardous substances.

- Suitable for federal employment as determined by background investigation
