The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Northern California Healthcare System is a vital federal agency dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare services to Veterans and their families. The system encompasses multiple facilities including the Martinez VA Medical Center and the Mather Air Force Base in California, serving as a pillar of care and support within the Veteran community. With a mission to honor America's Veterans by delivering exceptional health care and promoting holistic well-being, the VA Northern California Healthcare System is renowned for its commitment to quality, innovation, and compassion in health services. This employer operates within the public sector and offers a stable federal career with competitive compensation. The employment type for this position is permanent and full-time, with a salary ranging from $18.02 to $24.99 per hour, reflecting the federal wage scale grade WG 2. The Housekeeping Aid position plays an essential role within the Environmental Management Services Division, providing crucial support to maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment in VA facilities. The role involves performing a wide range of light and heavy cleaning duties to ensure that patient areas, offices, corridors, restrooms, and other shared spaces are sanitized and maintained to the highest standards. Working under the supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor or a designated official, a Housekeeping Aid contributes directly to the patient care experience by ensuring that Veteran patient environments are safe and comfortable. Housekeeping Aids in this role are responsible for cleaning wards, patient rooms, storerooms, offices, and corridors using various methods such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing floors with machines, vacuuming carpets, and polishing floors. The role also includes specific tasks such as emptying waste baskets, cleaning light globes and Venetian blinds, washing walls, windows, and ceilings by climbing small ladders, refilling toilet tissue and towel dispensers, and repositioning furniture as needed. This position requires working in a dynamic environment with minimal supervision and the flexibility to cover different shifts, including rotating weekends and holidays. Since the position involves a physical component with responsibilities like carrying loads and handling cleaning equipment, the ideal candidate must demonstrate dexterity, dependability, and adherence to safety procedures. The VA values individuals who are passionate about public service and committed to improving the health and safety of Veterans. As part of the federal government, employment with the VA offers not only a stable and meaningful career but also a comprehensive benefits package aimed at supporting employees and their families' well-being.
