The North Carolina General Assembly (NCGA) is the state's bicameral legislative body, comprising the Senate and the House of Representatives. Established to enact laws, establish rules, and govern the conduct, rights, and duties of citizens, the NCGA plays a vital role in shaping the state’s legal and regulatory framework. The Legislative Complex, constructed in 1963 and distinguished by its unique architecture, serves as the central hub where legislative business is conducted. This facility houses the Legislative Building and the Legislative Office Building, which require meticulous maintenance to uphold their distinguished appearance and functionality.
The Facility Maintenance department is essential in preserving the integrity and cleanliness of these government buildings. This department ensures that all office spaces, public areas, and meeting rooms maintain a level of presentation that meets the high standards expected by the NCGA and its members. Within this department, the housekeeping team plays a critical role in the operational success of the legislative complex.
We are currently seeking a dedicated full-time Housekeeper for the second shift, working from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. This permanent position offers an annual salary of $37,960. The role demands exceptional attention to detail, the ability to follow instructions carefully, and a strong work ethic. Housekeepers ensure the legislative complex remains clean, sanitary, and well-ordered, providing a welcoming and professional environment for legislators, staff, and visitors.
Housekeepers are responsible for a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks, including disinfecting high-traffic areas, sweeping, mopping, buffing, and vacuuming floors, cleaning carpets and furniture, maintaining restrooms, emptying waste receptacles, and polishing furniture and fixtures. The job also involves setting up rooms for meetings and responding promptly to service calls. The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team is essential in this role.
This position requires flexibility with working hours, including the capacity to work extended hours and weekends to meet the needs of the General Assembly. The role operates under the guidance of a Housekeeping Supervisor and the Facility Maintenance Manager, ensuring all cleaning services are delivered efficiently and in accordance with safety standards.
The successful candidate will possess knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing techniques, proper use of cleaning chemicals, and the ability to operate various cleaning tools and equipment safely. Physical stamina is necessary, as the job involves standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 pounds), bending, and other physical activities throughout the shift. Additionally, applicants must be willing to comply with safety protocols, including wearing masks, gloves, and other personal protective equipment.
