The Host/Hostess position at Hotel Nikko San Francisco is a pivotal front-of-house role serving as the initial point of contact for all arriving guests. This role is vital in setting the tone for the guest’s entire dining experience by providing warm welcomes, managing reservations, coordinating seating arrangements, and efficiently handling waiting lists. Hosts/Hostesses must exhibit stellar organizational skills, excellent interpersonal abilities, and the capacity to multitask in a high-pressure environment. They greet guests warmly, strive to recognize returning patrons, provide detailed descriptions of menus and food offerings, and ensure guests requiring extra attention are properly cared for. Candidates for this role should be prepared to work a flexible schedule that includes morning shifts from Thursday to Sunday and an evening shift on Mondays, with adjustments based on business needs. The position demands individuals who are enthusiastic, energetic, and capable of making quick decisions while maintaining calm and professionalism. Additionally, hosts/hostesses are expected to maintain a clean and welcoming reception area, assist wait staff as necessary, and communicate effectively with the entire dining team to optimize guest satisfaction. Given the dynamic nature of the hospitality environment, employees in this position must be physically capable of standing for up to eight-hour shifts and performing repetitive movements such as walking, lifting, and reaching. The job requires continuous communication with guests and coworkers and adherence to safety protocols when handling cleaning chemicals. The ability to utilize reservation and point-of-sale systems like Open Table and Micros is preferred but not mandatory.
