The Host/Hostess position at St. Luke's University Health Network is a crucial role that supports the overall patient experience by managing patient meal services efficiently and courteously. The primary responsibilities include preparing, delivering, and picking up patient trays, while ensuring accurate communication of menu preferences and special nutritional requirements. The Host/Hostess acts as the frontline liaison between patients and food service operations, providing exceptional customer service and responding promptly to requests. In this role, employees use advanced ordering systems such as Vision-Meals Your Way and EPIC to manage meal selections and document nutritional care orders. The Host/Hostess collaborates closely with patient care teams and food service staff to ensure that meals are tailored to support both patient satisfaction and clinical needs. Minor food preparation and portioning activities are also part of the job, adhering to health and safety policies to maintain high standards. Physical activity is significant in this role, involving walking, lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 50 pounds, which requires stamina and physical capability.
The role demands excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams. Knowledge of various diet types and nutritional options is essential, as is the ability to share basic diet information with patients while referring complex educational needs to dietitians.
