The Safety Specialist role at Allan Myers is a full-time exempt position responsible for ensuring compliance with corporate, federal, and state safety policies across various field sites. The position requires extensive travel and the adaptability to work at different job sites as assignments change. Key responsibilities include conducting site safety observations and inspections, performing audits and training needs assessments, and developing targeted safety training materials. This role plays an integral part in assisting Operations with pre-planning safety protocols by conducting risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and identifying necessary controls to mitigate hazards. The Safety Specialist also ensures adherence to OSHA, MSHA, and DOT documentation requirements, preparing and providing training documentation for various site hazards such as hazcom, rigging, cranes, excavation, and scaffolding. Additionally, this role involves conducting incident investigations and facilitating site-specific Toolbox Talks, Safety Flashes, and monthly training modules. The Safety Specialist oversees subcontractor safety compliance, conducts new hire orientations, participates in morning huddles and project planning meetings, and supports the project team with safety expertise on the job site. The role also includes responsibilities such as managing OSHA and MSHA inspections, performing post-accident drug screens, purchasing necessary safety equipment, and other duties as assigned. The Safety Specialist contributes significantly to maintaining a safe working environment that aligns with Allan Myers’ policies, procedures, and safety culture. • HSE/Safety related Bachelor’s degree and 0-3 years of experience in a HSE/Safety role or no degree with 1-3 years of experience in Heavy Civil construction
• valid driver’s license
• must be able to travel overnight or long distances on occasion
• willingness to learn and adapt to change
• ability to work under deadlines and pressure
• must possess excellent communication (verbal/written) and time management skills
• knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulations preferred
• must be detail oriented
