Serco Inc. is a leading global provider of air navigation and air traffic control services, operating extensively across multiple locations in Oregon including Aurora, Medford, North Bend, Pendleton, Redmond, Salem, and Troutdale. As one of the largest non-government Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSP) worldwide, Serco offers comprehensive air traffic control (ATC) services catering to small and medium regional airports as well as major commercial air hubs. The company is unique in offering all three ATC disciplines: Terminal Tower, Terminal Approach Control, and Enroute Center, distinguishing it as a premier commercial ANSP and one of the largest non-governmental employers of Air Traffic Controllers globally. Serco’s Air Traffic Control Specialists (ATCS) play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and orderly movement of air traffic within and around airports. These specialists use their expertise to prevent collisions and reduce delays caused by traffic congestion, thereby maintaining the smooth operation of the national airspace system. The positions available are full-time roles, with salaries ranging between $36.05 and $38.04 per hour, subject to variations based on location. Additionally, eligible candidates may receive various incentives such as paid time off allowances, housing stipends, relocation allowances, and complexity pay, depending on their assignment. In the role of an Air Traffic Control Specialist at Serco, professionals are responsible for a variety of important tasks that require attention to detail, critical decision-making, and effective communication skills. These include answering radio communications from arriving and departing aircraft, issuing precise landing and takeoff instructions, relaying vital information on runway conditions, wind velocity and direction, visibility, taxiing instructions, and other relevant data about nearby aircraft. Specialists also issue air traffic clearances to maintain safe distances between aircraft. Moreover, these specialists conduct critical weather observations as Limited Aviation Weather Reporting Station (LAWRS) observers, distributing time-sensitive weather updates to pilots and other air traffic control facilities to enhance flight safety. They manage the transfer and receipt of control over aircraft, operate a variety of technical equipment such as radios, telephones, interphones, computer systems, radar, recording systems, weather instrumentation, light guns, airport and runway lighting systems, and backup equipment. In emergency situations, Air Traffic Control Specialists promptly alert Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighters and first responders, coordinating rapid response activities.
