The role of Restaurant General Manager (RGM) at Burger King is a pivotal position responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a single restaurant location. The RGM acts as the executive leader, ensuring the restaurant achieves its financial goals while delivering an outstanding guest experience and maintaining high operational standards. Reporting directly to the District Manager, the RGM manages a team comprising an Assistant Manager, Hourly Shift Coordinators, and 20-45 team members. This role demands a strong focus on profitability, guest satisfaction, people management, and operational efficiency.
The Restaurant General Manager has primary accountability for the restaurant’s profit and loss (P&L), actively managing financial outcomes by reviewing key P&L components and driving sales through excellent guest service, effective people development, and meticulous operations management. In addition, the RGM motivates and directs team members to exceed guest expectations by delivering accurate, friendly, and fast service within a clean and welcoming environment. Managing the guest experience also involves addressing guest issues promptly, analyzing feedback to identify root causes, and implementing actionable plans to improve satisfaction levels.
Community engagement is another essential aspect of the role, as the RGM identifies opportunities to interact with the local community to attract potential guests and execute targeted marketing initiatives. The position also entails leading the restaurant’s recruitment and selection process to build and retain a high-performing team. Onboarding new employees through comprehensive training and certification programs ensures that team members are well-prepared to meet Burger King’s standards. The RGM fosters a positive workplace culture by managing individual and team recognition programs, providing coaching, and delivering constructive feedback to enhance team capabilities and overall restaurant performance.
Operational responsibilities include managing labor costs by optimizing manager staffing and team member scheduling while enforcing compliance with government regulations, employment laws, and Burger King corporate policies. Maintaining restaurant standards aligned with the brand’s operational guidelines is critical to the role. Additionally, the RGM is expected to perform the duties of the Assistant Manager and Hourly Shift Coordinators when necessary, demonstrating hands-on leadership and teamwork.
This full-time role requires candidates to be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or GED, with two years of college preferred. Candidates should have 1-2 years of previous restaurant management experience and a solid understanding of P&L management and the key drivers of restaurant profitability. Effective time management, leadership skills, guest service principles, and availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and irregular shifts are essential for success in this position.
