The role of Global Trade Compliance Specialist at Ashland is a key position within the organization’s Global Trade Compliance (GTC) function, reporting directly to the Global Trade Compliance Senior Manager. This is a remote position, although preference is given to candidates located near one of Ashland’s sites. The Specialist is responsible for ensuring the company’s import and export activities comply with all relevant trade regulations and customs laws. Key responsibilities include monitoring federal register updates and regulatory changes, managing Harmonized System (HS) classification for both US and Canadian operations, optimizing and automating trade compliance processes, and leading knowledge transfer and training within the organization.
The Specialist will ensure daily import and export activities adhere to established compliance policies and standards, support customs inquiries, conduct audits of international trade activities, and maintain updated trade data within the company’s ERP system. Additionally, the role supports global commercial, supply chain, and finance strategies by ensuring trade compliance risks are effectively managed and minimized. Candidates for this position should possess a Bachelor’s degree, 3-5 years of experience in trade compliance or export/import roles, expertise in HS classification, and a Customs Broker License. A Master’s degree and trade compliance certification, especially within the chemical industry, are preferred.
