SAIC (Science Applications International Corporation) is a leading technology integrator providing full lifecycle services and solutions in the technical, engineering, intelligence, and enterprise IT markets. The company supports a variety of government and commercial clients with high-quality services aimed at solving complex challenges, emphasizing innovation, technology, and expertise. SAIC’s Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team plays a critical role in supporting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) by delivering comprehensive air traffic control training services. This specific opportunity is based at the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport Air Traffic Control Tower (MSP) located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The CTS team is dedicated to training and preparing air traffic controllers to safely manage and control one of the busiest airspace sectors in the United States. The role advertised is for a Casual Air Traffic Control Instructor-II. This position operates in support of the FAA, providing essential air traffic control training services directly at MSP. The position is casual, including on-call and temporary shifts during daytime hours, with no travel requirements and no remote work options. The employment goal is to sustain high-quality training performance tailored to a wide variety of students, including developmental air traffic controllers and Certified Professional Controllers (CPCs). This instructor position demands substantive technical knowledge of current ATC automation tools, simulation systems, and procedures used within live and simulated air traffic control environments. The successful candidate will play a hands-on role, including classroom instruction, laboratory simulation training, mentoring students, and potentially Remote Pilot Operators (RPOs). This role is pivotal in maintaining the FAA’s mission of providing safe, expert air traffic control services to the flying public. The FAA employs more than 14,000 controllers who manage over 50,000 daily flights across the National Airspace System (NAS). With growing operational complexities and an influx of new controllers, the FAA depends on high-quality instructional services like those delivered by SAIC’s CTS team to sustain operational safety and efficiency. The instructor position entails working closely with FAA personnel and leveraging simulation-based curriculum to not only deliver training but also to participate in the design and continuous improvement of instructional content. Candidates must have significant experience in live ATC operations and simulation-based training environments, preferably at MSP or an equivalent ATC facility. The job emphasizes not only technical expertise but also the ability to manage classrooms effectively, engage students in continuous learning, and provide tailored mentoring. The position also stresses the importance of certification credentials, requiring FAA Certified Professional Controller status, as well as the ability to obtain and maintain Instructor-II Simulation Laboratory and Classroom Certifications. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced FAA air traffic controllers who are looking to continue contributing to the aviation industry through education and training, particularly those eligible for FERS retirement earning exemptions. The estimated salary range for this casual position is between $40,001 and $80,000, varying according to experience and qualifications. This role provides a stable platform for ATC professionals to leverage their operational experience in a teaching capacity while supporting the country’s critical aviation infrastructure and safety mission.

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • FAA Certified Professional Controller certification
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Instructor-II Simulation Laboratory and Classroom Certification
  • Strong technical skills with ATC automation and simulation systems
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills for coordination with FAA personnel
