The agency is staffed by a combination of state and federal civilian employees who deliver essential services that enable TMD to meet its strategic goals effectively. As a dedicated organization steeped in military tradition and community engagement, TMD is committed to being America's premier state military organization composed of professional, mission-ready forces fully integrated with the communities they serve. This commitment is reflected in their vision to remain relevant through the twenty-first century while maintaining operational readiness and excellent service to the public and military personnel alike. The position being offered is that of a Security Officer, a journey-level role tasked with complex security enforcement responsibilities. This role is vital in safeguarding priority resources, personnel, buildings, and equipment belonging to both the Texas Military Department and Department of Defense (DoD). Security Officers are central to maintaining order and protecting life and property against threats such as theft, vandalism, fire, accidents, and trespassing. Working under the supervision of the Senior Shift Lead, the position grants moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment, ensuring the right balance between adherence to protocols and responsive action. The Security Officer duties include performing as the Installation Entry Controller, authorizing and monitoring access to premises, and issuing visitor passes. These individuals act as the frontline interface with the public, providing directions, addressing complaints, and maintaining a visible security presence. They conduct regular patrols to identify and deter suspicious activities and are responsible for emergency reporting and response. Officers may detain suspects as per legal and procedural guidelines, assist with VIP visits in coordination with local and federal law enforcement agencies, and maintain detailed incident reports. They are also expected to engage in required state onboarding and ongoing training specific to their security enforcement duties. The position offers shift work that may include evenings, weekends and holidays, reflecting the round-the-clock nature of maintaining security at military installations. Applicants should be aware that flexibility is required, including the potential for overtime and emergency duty on short notice. The role demands physical fitness as officers are expected to carry equipment, move swiftly when necessary, and work outdoors under various weather conditions. Candidates must maintain weapon qualifications and adhere to strict medical and physical standards as prescribed by military and state regulations. Employment with the Texas Military Department offers an attractive benefits package that enhances the quality of life for employees and their families. These benefits include 100% covered employee health insurance premiums and 50% family coverage, optional vision, dental, life, and disability insurance plans, generous paid leave including vacation, sick leave, and state and federal holidays. Employees may also enjoy flexible spending accounts for medical and childcare expenses, opportunities for modified work schedules including telework, and free access to Camp Mabry Museum and historical structures. Comprehensive training programs and wellness initiatives support employee development and well-being throughout their career. In summary, this position appeals to individuals who are committed to public service, enjoy a dynamic and disciplined work environment, and are capable of responding adeptly to security challenges within a military context.
