The role of a Gourmet Food Chef at BGC is integral to providing customers with exceptional food quality and culinary expertise within their deli and catering departments. This position demands creativity, precision, and a passion for gourmet food preparation. The Gourmet Food Chef is responsible for preparing chef-inspired, high-quality gourmet foods while ensuring appealing visual presentation. They work collaboratively with deli personnel to support superior customer service, which directly influences profitability goals. An important aspect of the role includes assisting with menu planning and the creation of catering orders, ensuring each offering meets the high standards of taste and presentation required by BGC. This job positions the Gourmet Food Chef not only as a food preparer but also as a customer-facing ambassador who promotes products and engages shoppers through visual merchandising and suggestive selling techniques. This full-time position requires someone who is skilled in recipe adherence, equipment operation, and teamwork, capable of thriving in a fast-paced retail setting. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and will bring a dedication to food safety demonstrated by a Food Handler certification. The physical demands of the job include standing for extended periods, performing fine finger movements, and occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds. - High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- Food Handler certification
- One or more years of cooking related experience or equivalent education and experience
- Ability to read and follow recipes
- Ability to safely operate and maintain department equipment
- Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and partners
- Must be attentive to potential hazards and report those that cannot be immediately remedied
- Ability to use non-precision and precision hand tools
- Ability to maintain steady hand and work with fine finger movements
