Reporting directly to the Associate School Food Service Manager, this role commands the supervision of cooks, assistant cooks, and other food service personnel, ensuring the delivery of nutritious meals aligned to federal guidelines and local requirements. The successful candidate will foster collaborative relationships with school administrators, district food service directors, and nutrition staff to maintain high standards of food safety, quality, and participation in meal programs. Key responsibilities include implementing nutritious menus developed under USDA regulations, conducting food safety compliance checks, managing special meal preparations such as breakfast in the classroom, scheduling and training kitchen staff, and overseeing food inventory and records to ensure efficient operations. The compensation for this role starts at a competitive annual salary of $57,142, with internal candidates assured not to earn less than their current DOE salary. • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major in nutrition, foods, dietetics, health and nutrition sciences with a concentration in foods and nutrition, home economics, culinary arts, baking and pastry arts, hotel/restaurant institutional management, food service entrepreneurship, food service administration, or a closely related field
• or an associate degree in these fields and two years of experience managing a restaurant or quantity food service operation, or as a nutritionist or dietitian
• or a four-year high school diploma or its equivalent and four years of professional experience
• plus two additional years of the experience described above
• must be current NYC employee with permanent civil service status as School Food Service Manager or eligible for transfer or have passed the most recent School Food Service Manager examination
• eligible for 55-a program for persons with disabilities is encouraged to apply
