The Food Handler position at Syracuse University's Schine Student Center is a full-time, unionized role within the Food Service department, designed to support the daily food preparation and service operations at a dynamic campus hub. This role is based in Syracuse, NY, with a competitive pay range of $20.007 to $22.229 per hour depending on experience and other factors. The scheduled work hours are primarily from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Thursday through Wednesday, with weekends off, providing a balanced schedule for employees. This Food Handler position requires an individual who can follow detailed instructions to perform a wide variety of food preparation and serving tasks. Responsibilities include setting up service counters, salad bars, and soup stations, serving customers, maintaining portion control with computerized food service program documentation, preparing salads and dressings, cooking items like French fries, hot and cold sandwiches, eggs, omelets, and burgers, and slicing meats and desserts. The role also involves maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards for counters, steam tables, kitchen equipment, and utensils. Safety, health regulations, and product knowledge are critical components of the job, ensuring that all food is prepared and served in a manner consistent with Syracuse University's high standards. Physically, the Food Handler must be capable of standing for most of the shift and able to perform frequent bending, stooping, walking, twisting, and lifting tasks.
