The role of Floater at the Ernie Davis Dining Hall is an essential position within Syracuse University's Food Service department. This full-time, unionized position offers hourly pay ranging between $20.007 and $22.229, reflecting the candidate’s education, training, experience, and other relevant factors. The Floater position is designed to provide dynamic support across multiple operational areas, such as cashier duties, snack bar assistance, cooking assistance, pizza making, storeroom management, and food handling. Given the wide range of duties, assignments may shift daily, requiring flexibility and adaptability from the employee.
The position involves a variety of food preparation tasks, including making sandwiches, salads, pizzas, fries, omelets, and more. The Floyding role requires operating various kitchen and service equipment such as grills, deep fryers, convection ovens, dishwashers, mixers, and POS terminals. Employees must maintain food safety and sanitation standards and ensure the cleanliness and efficient operation of food service areas. In addition to food preparation, cash handling responsibilities require the ability to manage monetary transactions accurately, reconcile cash register tapes, and provide excellent customer service to patrons. Physical duties involve receiving, stocking, and rotating inventory as well as lifting and moving kitchen supplies.
This position works primarily in the afternoons and evenings, from 1:45 PM to 10:15 PM on Thursdays, Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, with weekends off. The role reports to food service management and works closely with the campus community, students, faculty, and visitors. A minimum of three months of prior food service experience is necessary, with some assignments requiring familiarity with fresh dough products.
