The Executive Chef position with American Cruise Lines offers an extraordinary career opportunity to culinary professionals who are eager to combine their passion for food with their love of travel. This is a unique role that extends beyond the traditional kitchen environment, allowing the chef to lead a dynamic galley team onboard, prepare elevated, regionally inspired menus using fresh and local ingredients, and deliver an unforgettable dining experience for every guest and crew member aboard the ship. The role is seasonal, specifically for the 2025 cruise season, with the position based onboard various ship locations throughout the United States. As Executive Chef, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of meal preparation and kitchen operations on board, including compliance with food safety and sanitation standards set forth by the FDA. This position requires strong leadership, exceptional training skills, and the ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment. The Executive Chef will oversee a galley team of approximately 6 to 10 members, ensuring that every meal reflects the high standards of taste, presentation, and quality that the brand is known for. The role demands dedication, with work schedules involving long hours (up to 14 hours per day, seven days a week) when onboard, as well as strict adherence to safety protocols, including passing a pre-employment drug test and background check, and possessing a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Joining American Cruise Lines as an Executive Chef means embracing a lifestyle that blends adventure and professional excellence. Employees live and work aboard the ship for extended periods (six to eight weeks at a time), followed by one to two weeks of unpaid vacation. American Cruise Lines supports its chefs with paid travel to and from the ship, comfortable room and board accommodations, uniforms, paid training, and well-equipped kitchens with inspiring views every day. This career path is ideal for chefs seeking a highly rewarding, leadership-focused role in a dynamic setting far removed from the traditional kitchen, offering the chance to travel across the country while honing your culinary craft and delivering extraordinary experiences.
