The Event Coordinator role at Michaels in Sugarland, TX, is a dynamic and engaging position aimed at planning, coordinating, and facilitating events—including children’s birthday parties and craft classes—within the store. This role is essential to delivering a stress-free, fun, and interactive experience for all guests, enhancing their overall shopping experience. The Event Coordinator is expected to deliver friendly customer service by helping customers find the products they need and ensuring a smooth and courteous checkout process. This position also involves operational duties such as unloading trucks, restocking merchandise, and maintaining store standards to uphold Michaels' brand promises.
In this role, you will manage multiple events simultaneously, engaging clients of all ages—from young children to seniors—by fostering a creative and enjoyable atmosphere. You will guide party participants through craft projects, provide face painting, manage party add-ons like balloons and goody bags, and communicate effectively with clients and team members to ensure smooth event execution. Administrative responsibilities include answering emails, making phone calls, handling paperwork, adjusting plans based on client feedback, and developing backup plans for unforeseen situations. Upholding cleanliness and safety standards before, during, and after events is a key part of the job.
Beyond event coordination, you will assist customers by locating products, promoting the benefits of loyalty programs, completing enrollments, and educating customers on feedback surveys. Participation in store operations such as truck unloading, stocking, planogram maintenance, and store cleanliness is required. You must support shrink and safety programs and comply with company policies and legal requirements. The role involves cross-training in custom framing, requiring adaptability and teamwork.
Michaels values energetic, enthusiastic individuals with excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Experience working with children and in retail or customer service environments is preferred. Physical demands include standing for long periods, moving throughout the store, bending, lifting, and using ladders. The work environment is a public retail store with climate-controlled public areas and some non-climate-controlled stock rooms. Work hours include nights, weekends, and early mornings.
