Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver), established in 1965, is a leading public institution of higher education serving over 16,000 students in Colorado. The university was founded to support students who are underrepresented in higher education, recognizing that their life experiences and paths may differ from traditional academic routes. Today, MSU Denver proudly serves the most diverse undergraduate student population in the state, including a large proportion of first-generation students. Designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and being the only institution in Colorado certified with the Seal of Excelencia, MSU Denver offers an inclusive, affordable, and flexible education that prepares students with essential skills grounded in a multicultural and global perspective. The university supports students in achieving undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as career and life success. The School of Hospitality within MSU Denver is a distinctive and innovative educational program that offers four majors, one minor, and six certificate programs. The school is unique in the United States as it boasts a LEED Gold-certified SpringHill Suites hotel on campus, alongside facilities such as a commercial conference space, a state-of-the-art beverage testing laboratory, a commercial restaurant, the Day Leadership Academy, and the Charlie Papazian Brewing Education Lab. This dynamic environment creates unparalleled hands-on learning experiences for students pursuing careers in hospitality, tourism, and events. The School of Hospitality is currently seeking temporary, part-time affiliate faculty to join its academic team. These positions are non-tenure track and typically appointed on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon the university’s program needs, budget, and enrollment. As part-time, at-will employees, affiliate faculty play an essential role in delivering high-quality instruction to students in a variety of subject areas including Wedding Planning, Event Industry, Event Project Management, Event Planning, Event Support Systems, and Special Event Production. Affiliate faculty members are expected to teach a minimum of 3 credit hours per semester either in-person or online, prepare course materials and lesson plans, grade student work and provide timely, comprehensive feedback, and be accessible for student consultation. They must be adept at integrating technology into their coursework and sensitive to the diverse backgrounds and educational needs of MSU Denver’s student population. The university explicitly values candidates who demonstrate adaptability and a commitment to inclusive teaching practices that support equity and success for all students. Candidates for affiliate faculty positions must have at least a Master’s degree in the field they will teach or hold a Bachelor’s degree in a hospitality-related discipline supplemented by substantial and recent professional experience, typically no less than ten years, with progressive responsibility and supervisory roles. Preference will be given to those who also hold nationally recognized certificates and licenses relevant to the hospitality and events field. Affiliate faculty are compensated based on credit hours taught, according to university policy. While these positions do not include traditional university benefits due to their part-time nature, MSU Denver offers an extensive benefits package for other employee classifications, including medical, vision, dental, life insurance, retirement plans, and more. The university is dedicated to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning environment and provides accommodations throughout the employment application process. Background checks are conducted on all hired faculty members to ensure campus safety. This is an excellent opportunity for professionals with real-world experience and academic credentials to contribute to a forward-thinking, student-centered education community at MSU Denver while engaging with diverse and motivated students preparing for careers in hospitality, tourism, and events.
