The Linen Distribution department at Rush University Medical Center plays a vital role in supporting the hospital’s daily operations by ensuring a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The department focuses on maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the facility, including patient rooms, operating rooms, public areas, restrooms, and specialized medical suites. Within this department, the position of Environmental Services Worker is crucial, specifically under the supervision of an Environmental Services supervisor. This part-time role, with afternoon shifts from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, involves hands-on cleaning duties following rigorous protocols to meet the hospital's hygiene standards and infection control policies.
The Environmental Services Worker is responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and servicing designated areas across the medical center. This includes performing specialized cleaning tasks such as 10 step patient room cleaning, terminal cleaning, discharge cleaning, and cycle cleaning for operating rooms and labor and delivery suites. Workers utilize a variety of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and technology like the Bed Tracking System to efficiently manage cleaning assignments. The role demands practical knowledge of floor care techniques including stripping, refinishing, and shampooing carpets, alongside handling upholstery and metal surface maintenance. The position emphasizes safety, attention to detail, interpersonal skills, and the ability to follow written and oral instructions accurately.
