The Flight Coordinator position at LSG Sky Chefs is an essential customer-focused role within the company’s catering operations. This role is highly interactive, requiring daily face-to-face communication with flight crews of airline customers to address their needs, troubleshoot issues, offer practical solutions, and ensure that each flight departs fully prepared with all catering requirements met. The Flight Coordinator acts as the vital link between the catering center and the airlines, overseeing the final preparation stages of flights by monitoring meal and equipment quantities, verifying quality standards, and managing boarding documentation. Candidates for this role should ideally have prior experience working in an airfield environment, especially at major airports such as O’Hare, familiarity with airport access protocols including a SIDA badge, and a valid driver’s license which is mandatory. The role includes the responsibility of coordinating with flight crews to ensure the accuracy of flight menus, galley specifications, and overseeing special meal requests, as well as ensuring that all catering components are correctly loaded on each flight for timely departures. Due to the nature of the job at busy airport settings, the Flight Coordinator must be prepared to work assigned schedules that could include nights, weekends, and holidays, with willingness to work overtime when necessary.
Physical requirements for the role involve working in various environments, including cold holding coolers, and performing physical tasks such as walking, bending, lifting, and pushing weights over 50 pounds. The role requires employees to pass a criminal background check and drug screening, obtain airport-specific badges and permits such as the SIDA badge and Ground Motor Vehicle Driving Badge with a yellow stripe for airfield driving, and adhere strictly to safety regulations including the use of personal protective equipment.
