The City Facilities Management Department is dedicated to maintaining cleanliness and order in public buildings, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for employees, visitors, and residents. As a government entity, the department upholds rigorous standards for facility maintenance and custodial services with a strong focus on efficiency, safety, and compliance with local regulations. Through its dedicated teams, the department manages janitorial services across multiple city-managed properties, supporting the operational needs of municipal offices, community centers, aviation facilities, and other public spaces. The department prides itself on fostering a collaborative workplace where responsible custodial practices and leadership in facility upkeep are paramount to the overall excellence in city services. 
The role of Lead Custodian within the City Facilities Management Department is integral to the upkeep and sanitation of city buildings, overseeing the more complex work performed by custodial staff. This position entails leading, organizing, and actively participating in cleaning and maintaining facilities, ensuring that all janitorial tasks meet established standards of quality and safety. The Lead Custodian is responsible for orderliness and inventory management of janitorial supplies and equipment. Additionally, the role requires procurement duties including soliciting bids for custodial equipment and fixtures in line with city procedures. Important responsibilities also include enforcing department policies and procedures, interpreting guidelines for staff, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
With a focus on operational leadership, this position directs the activities of the custodial team and serves as the primary point of contact for supervision when higher-level management is absent. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to independently manage tasks, handle purchasing duties according to city policies, and operate custodial equipment safely and efficiently. This role demands clear communication, both verbal and written, to maintain effective relationships with coworkers and other stakeholders. 
A valid New Mexico Driver's License and the ability to obtain a City Operator's Permit within six months of hire are required. For assignments related to the Aviation Department, qualifying for and maintaining access as defined by the TSA and other regulatory bodies is necessary, including passing relevant background checks.  - possession of valid New Mexico driver’s license or ability to obtain by date of hire
