The Deli Kitchen Lead role at Boise Co-op is a frontline leadership position vital to maintaining high standards in food preparation, safety, and team dynamics within the deli kitchen. The ideal candidate will lead by example, ensuring the kitchen operates smoothly and efficiently, while also nurturing a motivated and cohesive team. This role requires a balance of hands-on culinary skills and strong leadership capabilities to oversee daily kitchen operations. Responsibilities include preparing food to quality standards, coaching and training deli staff, managing schedules based on sales and team capacity, and maintaining clear communication channels between the back of house (BOH) and front of house (FOH) teams. Additionally, the Deli Kitchen Lead is responsible for minimizing waste and managing inventory through effective packaging, labeling, and rotation practices.
The role demands a proactive approach to safety and equipment use, ensuring compliance with food safety guidelines and proper handling of kitchen machinery. Additionally, the Deli Kitchen Lead must be tech-savvy, using tools such as email and Microsoft Teams to track updates and coaching notes. Flexibility and a strong work ethic are essential, as the position requires the ability to fill in for team members when necessary and to adapt to varying workloads and schedules, including mornings, evenings, and weekends. The physical demands of the role include standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing repetitive movements, with occasional climbing, crouching, and reaching.
