DCS is a reputable security services company specializing in providing advanced security solutions primarily for airports and other sensitive locations. With a strong commitment to safety and professionalism, DCS supports the mission of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) by delivering quality passenger and baggage screening services that protect air travelers, airports, and aircraft. The company prides itself on upholding high standards of customer service and security while fostering a work environment grounded in integrity and core values that emphasize excellence and leadership. DCS offers competitive benefits packages which include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, short-term disability, long-term disability, and 401(k) plans tailored based on the employee’s status.
The Security Transportation Security Officer (STSO) position at DCS is a critical role responsible for overseeing all passenger and checked baggage screening locations. Reporting directly to the Project Manager regarding security concerns, the STSO ensures that all assigned personnel provide the traveling public with the highest levels of security, customer service, and professionalism. The STSO acts as a key leader by directing and guiding the work of subordinate security personnel to guarantee compliance with TSA's Checkpoint and Checked Baggage Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This role requires an individual who can effectively manage operations with vigilance and maintain order during both normal and crisis situations.
This leadership role requires STSOs to perform diverse responsibilities, including passenger and baggage screening duties such as pat-downs, operation of walk-through metal detectors, and administration of Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) screenings. Additionally, STSOs must monitor and interpret x-ray images to identify and prevent dangerous objects from entering aircraft. The position demands continual improvement of security procedures and individual performance through ongoing training and development. Effective communication is vital, as STSOs interact with multiple stakeholders including the TSA Coordination Center, local law enforcement, airline officials, and airport personnel.
The role involves administrative responsibilities such as scheduling, managing shift rotations, breaks, and overseeing equipment maintenance and calibrations. The STSO also prepares detailed incident reports, logbooks, and other documentation. Supervision extends to conducting quarterly employee evaluations, monitoring attendance and punctuality, and ensuring the training needs of team members are met. The STSO may be assigned additional duties by the Project Manager and acts as an incident commander during emergencies until proper relief arrives.
Physical and medical fitness are essential components of the job. Applicants must be willing and able to perform physical tasks such as repeatedly lifting and carrying baggage weighing up to 50 pounds, sustaining extended periods of standing, and demonstrating agility through bending and stooping. Medical clearance involves vision and hearing tests, joint mobility, and strength assessments, as well as maintaining a blood pressure within specified limits. All STSOs must pass a pre-employment drug screening and are subject to random testing during employment. A Secret security clearance is required due to the sensitive nature of the work, reinforced by a background investigation including criminal and credit checks.
Training is an integral part of the STSO role. Candidates must complete TSA’s computerized Screener Assessment Battery and dual-function crossover training, which sharpen English proficiency and X-ray interpretation skills. Ongoing participation in recurrent and specialized training programs ensures that STSOs stay current with evolving security protocols. Excellent communication and customer service skills are imperative for interacting with the public and colleagues in a professional and courteous manner.
Overall, the STSO position with DCS offers a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to contribute directly to the safety and security of air travel. Individuals who possess strong leadership qualities, attention to detail, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of security and customer service will thrive in this role.
