This collaborative setting ensures the smooth and effective operation of the organization and creates a supportive atmosphere for all who work and interact with MCCS.
The Child and Youth Programs (CYP) Cook position is an essential role within MCCS, focused on supporting the nutritional and culinary needs of children enrolled in Child Development Centers (CDC) or School Age Care (SAC) programs. The CYP Cook is responsible for performing a variety of basic cooking tasks that involve preparing and cooking simple, wholesome meals and snacks for children. This role requires adherence to strict health, safety, and sanitation standards, ensuring children receive nutritious and safe food options. The CYP Cook works closely with other team members to maintain a clean, orderlie work environment and ensure all food storage and preparation areas meet established guidelines.
The role involves hands-on food preparation duties, including cooking items such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, vegetables, cereals, and various convenience foods like frozen hash browns and chicken nuggets. The cook also assists with food prep tasks such as peeling, cutting, washing vegetables and fruits, sandwich assembly, and precise measuring of ingredients to comply with recipe standards and portion controls. Attention to detail and timing is vital to coordinate meals served family-style in classrooms or activity areas. In addition to cooking, the CYP Cook manages kitchen maintenance by cleaning dishes, pots, pans, and equipment, performing routine deep cleaning of kitchen spaces, and ensuring equipment safety and functionality. Inventory management and proper food storage practices, including labeling, dating, and rotating stock to minimize spoilage, are crucial elements of the job.
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work in a potentially warm and noisy kitchen environment, handle physical tasks such as lifting up to 45 pounds independently, and adhere to safety protocols related to kitchen equipment and food handling. The position requires the ability to pass mandatory background checks, obtain necessary certifications such as Tier-1 Childcare (CNACI), CPR, First Aid, and Food Handler certification, and meet ongoing training requirements. Effective communication skills and a commitment to delivering world-class customer service with courtesy are also key.
This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of an organization dedicated to supporting military families and their children by providing safe, healthy meals and nurturing environments. Working at MCCS means joining a stable federal service with exceptional benefits, a supportive team culture, and a chance to contribute positively to the Marine Corps community.
