Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) is a vital organization dedicated to supporting and enhancing the quality of life for Marines, their families, and others within the Marine Corps Community. MCCS offers a wide range of programs and services, designed to help meet the diverse needs of service members and their families, ensuring they have access to essential resources, recreational activities, community support, and professional development opportunities. The organization is staffed by a mix of military personnel, civilian employees, contractors, and volunteers, all working collaboratively to maintain a seamless and effective operation that benefits the entire community.
The role MCCS is currently looking to fill is integral to their food service operations. This position involves food preparation in small quantities with an emphasis on quality, sanitation, and timely service. The ideal candidate must have a working knowledge of various cooking methods and procedures pertinent to preparing certain menu items efficiently. Moreover, applicants need to be adept at following written food service guidelines, including food labels and standardized recipes. The ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations, such as adjusting ingredient quantities and determining serving sizes, is essential.
This role demands an individual who understands the characteristics of different foods—such as color, flavor, consistency, texture, temperature, and appropriate cooking times—to ensure meals are prepared to a high standard. Additionally, planning and coordinating the timing of multiple cooking tasks is a key part of the job to ensure all menu items are ready for serving at the designated time. Adherence to sanitation principles is critical to maintaining a safe and hygienic food preparation environment.
Physical stamina is required as the job involves continual standing and walking, with frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. The position includes lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 45 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance. The kitchen environment can be warm and noisy, with exposure to steam, fumes, odors, and potential hazards such as burns, cuts, and slips. The candidate must be prepared to work in varying temperatures, including times spent in walk-in refrigerators.
Because the position may involve working with children under 18 years of age, candidates must be able to obtain and maintain Tier-1 Childcare (CNACI) background checks. A pre-employment physical and ongoing annual physical exams are required, alongside proof of immunizations and freedom from communicable diseases. The successful applicant must complete all mandatory Department of Defense training, including orientation, initial training, annual ongoing training, and maintaining a 4-hour Food Handler certification. CPR and First Aid certifications must also be maintained.
Additional responsibilities may require obtaining a government driver's license and a government purchase card. Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written, along with strong interpersonal skills, are necessary to thrive in this team-oriented environment. Employment type is other, indicating flexibility in scheduling or contract nature, catering to varied candidate situations. While the exact salary is not specified, the role offers the chance to contribute meaningfully to the Marine Corps community, gaining valuable experience in a unique and supportive organizational setting.
