This opening is for a part-time, PRN Food Production Worker role located within the Aurora Zilber Hospice Residence - Hospice Building department. This position plays a crucial role within the food services team, responsible for preparing and producing food items that meet strict quality and quantity standards. The role operates under established guidelines, requiring the incumbent to review production sheets and recipes to ensure accurate food preparation as per the daily production report. Responsibilities include measuring and mixing ingredients, utilizing kitchen equipment such as blenders, mixers, grinders, slicers, and tenderizers to prepare a wide variety of foods including soups, salads, gravies, desserts, sauces, casseroles, and more. The Food Production Worker also bakes, roasts, broils, and steams a range of meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods, carving and slicing meats and cheeses as needed. Presentation is important, so this role includes garnishing, displaying, and serving food according to set standards and recipes. 
The position requires strict adherence to food safety protocols including proper storage, rotation of inventory, temperature monitoring, and safe food handling techniques to prevent contamination. Maintaining proper sanitation and recording temperature logs in production areas is essential. This role also focuses on controlling food waste and cost-effectiveness by monitoring portion control and preparing foods in small batches when needed. Age-specific considerations for patients receiving care are integral to the duties, requiring knowledge of growth and development principles to ensure food preparation meets the needs of patients based on their age group. 
The role demands a strong understanding of diet restrictions and the ability to adapt recipes accordingly. Candidates need to demonstrate proficient time management skills and strong interpersonal abilities while operating all necessary kitchen equipment. Physically, the job requires standing, walking, reaching, bending, squatting, kneeling, and lifting varying weights throughout the workday in a potentially hazardous kitchen environment where protective clothing and safety practices are mandatory. The position pays between $20.40 and $30.60 per hour and is not eligible for benefits, given its part-time, on-call nature.                 - High school graduate or equivalent knowledge
 - Typically requires 3 years of experience in food production in settings such as a hotel, restaurant or high end institutional environment
 - ServSafe Food Handler certification issued by the National Restaurant Association needs to be obtained within 1 year
 - Familiarity with diet restrictions and ability to adapt recipes accordingly
 - Ability to measure and scale amounts of ingredients used in a recipe
 - Proficient time management skills
 - Strong interpersonal skills
 - Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform job duties
 - Willingness to stand, walk, reach above shoulders, squat, bend, twist, kneel and climb throughout the workday
 - Capability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
 - Comfortable working with fumes, odors, and potential hazards in a kitchen environment
 - Ability to wear protective clothing as necessary
