The Cook role at Marian Regional Medical Center is vital to ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of food service within the hospital's cafeteria, patient trayline, and other food service areas. This position is integral to maintaining high-quality food production aligned with the institution’s health care philosophy. The Cook is responsible for reviewing production records and assembling the necessary food supplies and equipment to meet daily food production demands. Their tasks include baking, roasting, broiling, and steaming various meats, fish, vegetables, and other food items while adhering strictly to recipes and production records, thus preventing interruptions during service. The role demands close attention to food quality by tasting, smelling, and careful temperature monitoring to ensure safety and satisfaction. The Cook also sets up and places food items correctly for patient trays and service locations.
Beyond preparation, the Cook assists in managing workflow throughout kitchen operations and food distribution, ensuring that procedures run smoothly and efficiently. Maintaining the sanitation, proper care, and maintenance of work areas, equipment, and supplies is critical, as is promptly reporting any issues related to equipment, food supply, safety, or sanitation to supervisors. The Cook plays a key role in quality assurance, safety, and infection control by following established department policies and procedures. This position offers an hourly pay rate ranging from $24.00 to $28.85 and requires a candidate who possesses good knowledge of cooking techniques, food storage, sanitation, and safety principles, with at least one year of prior cooking experience. The role calls for someone who can prioritize tasks effectively, work both independently and collaboratively, and comfortably use institutional cooking equipment. Proficiency in English for reading, writing, and following instructions is essential.
