The hiring establishment for this position is the Club located at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. Joint Base Andrews is a prominent military facility supporting U.S. Air Force operations and is known for its critical role in national defense and hosting visiting dignitaries. The Club at Joint Base Andrews provides quality dining and social opportunities for active duty military personnel, their families, and authorized guests. This specific position is categorized as a Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) role, which means it is supported by revenue generated through on-base activities rather than federal appropriations. As such, this is a flexible employment opportunity without traditional federal benefits typically associated with appropriated fund employment.
This role focuses primarily on food preparation and service within the Club environment. Candidates will be engaged in preparing, cooking, and presenting food items, ensuring high standards of quality and safety are maintained at all times. The successful applicant will gain hands-on experience in the food service industry while working in a dynamic military community setting. This position requires continual physical activity including standing, walking, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. Frequent lifting of items weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasional lifting of heavier objects with assistance is also necessary. The role is well suited for individuals who thrive on active, physically demanding work and who have a strong appreciation for food safety and customer satisfaction.
The position is open to all eligible candidates, including those with a preference status such as Business Based Action, Military Spouse Preference, Veterans, and Transition Hiring preferences. Preference eligibilities are determined based on documentation submitted by the application deadline. The role requires documented experience in food preparation and presentation acquired in similar settings like grills, snack bars, restaurants, or clubs. This experience also encompasses knowledge of food service equipment operation and cleaning, food seasoning, and understanding the readiness of various foods. Importantly, despite the availability of educational background, this position does not accept education as a substitute for the required practical experience. Candidates must demonstrate the capability to follow oral and written instructions and perform simple arithmetic calculations necessary for food service tasks. The Club is committed to supporting a welcoming and professional work atmosphere ensuring food safety and customer satisfaction in every meal served.
This NAF position does not include benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, or paid time off which are typical of appropriated fund positions. However, it offers a unique opportunity to be part of a respected military installation, provide community support, and develop food service skills in a specialized setting. Work schedules are flexible to some extent, catering to operational needs of the Club and providing a supportive environment for qualified applicants. Employment under this classification is referred to as "OTHER," indicating a non-standard employment arrangement.
