The Dive Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek, SC, is a specialized facility operating under the Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) framework, meaning it is funded through revenues generated by the services it offers rather than federal appropriations. This establishment is focused on supporting the armed forces and their families by providing essential services including food and hospitality. The station takes pride in maintaining high standards in all operational aspects, particularly in its food service operations, to ensure a safe, high-quality dining experience for military personnel and their guests.
This particular job opportunity is for a food service position with a varied work schedule based on the needs of the facility. The role demands physical endurance and the ability to handle tasks that involve continual standing, walking, and frequent physical activities such as stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. Candidates will need to regularly lift or move objects up to 40 pounds independently and sometimes heavier items with assistance. This ensures that the food preparation and service area is kept functional and efficient.
The ideal applicant will have practical experience and knowledge of food preparation methods gained in grill, snack bar, restaurant, or club environments. This experience needs to encompass an understanding of food service equipment operation and cleaning, seasoning and cooking foods to the right level, and familiarity with safety and hygiene standards. The ability to follow both oral and written instructions accurately, perform basic arithmetic calculations, and maintain a clean and organized workspace are fundamental aspects of the role.
Applicants for this position must be physically fit and capable of performing the demanding duties associated with the job. They must also be eligible to work under NAF employment terms and meet all required background screenings including a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). A pre-employment physical is necessary to ensure the candidate can meet the physical requirements of the position. Obtaining a Food Handler's Certificate or completing food handler’s training is mandatory before starting work.
This role is open to all applicants. Preference eligibilities and priority categories including Business Based Action, Military Spouse Preference, Outside Applicant Veteran, Spouse/Widow/Parent of Veteran, and Transition Hiring Preference will be considered. Applicants should be prepared to supply proof of their eligibility by the specified closing date to be considered for priority status.
Education requirements for this position stipulate that experience cannot be substituted with education, emphasizing the importance of hands-on, practical food service experience. Candidates with foreign education must provide proof that their educational credentials meet standards equivalent to conventional U.S. programs. This ensures that all employees meet consistent quality benchmarks across the station's operational team.
This position provides a unique opportunity to work in a military community, contributing to the welfare and satisfaction of service members through exemplary food service.
