This role is crucial in administering and enforcing laws, codes, and ordinances designed to protect the city's environment by controlling erosion and sediment on construction sites and public spaces. The position reports directly to the City Engineer and Assistant City Engineer, providing an opportunity to work closely with city officials, contractors, and the public. This position involves a dynamic mix of fieldwork and office responsibilities, with approximately 80% of the duties carried out in the field inspecting construction sites and monitoring stormwater practices, while the remaining 20% focus on office tasks such as documentation, reporting, and public education. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to erosion and sediment control. This includes reviewing and approving permits, conducting thorough inspections, issuing citations when necessary, and developing educational materials to promote best practices among property owners and contractors.   • Associates degree in civil engineering, construction management or related field
  • or two years of progressively responsible experience as an engineering technician, soil erosion inspector or construction inspector
  • or five years in a construction related field
  • must obtain Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services Soil Erosion Inspector Certification within six months of hire
  • valid driver's license with good driving record
  • ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • ability to conduct physical tasks such as walking on rough terrain, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds
