Among the critical operations supporting these services is the Houston Airport System, which manages the city's airports, including William P. Hobby Airport (HOU), ensuring safe and seamless airport operations at one of Texas' major transportation hubs. The Department of Operations at the Houston Airport System plays a key role in facilitating the smooth flow of passengers and vehicles while maintaining stringent safety and security regulations.
Within this framework, the City of Houston is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Landside Agent in the Operations Division at William P. Hobby Airport. This is a shift work role, involving rotating schedules including weekends and holidays, that demands flexibility and dedication. The position operates within the Landside Operations sector of the Airport Operations Centers (AOC), which collaborates closely with multiple stakeholders such as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Houston Fire Department (HFD), Houston Police Department (HPD), and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The primary responsibility of the Senior Landside Agent is to maintain a safe, secure, and efficient airport environment for passengers and staff, especially in the landside area which includes the airport's access roads, tenant facilities, and vehicle management zones.
The Senior Landside Agent conducts thorough road inspections, investigates regulatory compliance, and responds promptly to various airport incidents. As a lead figure among Landside Agents, this role involves enforcing airport safety, security policies, and regulations to ensure smooth vehicular and passenger movements. Working proactively, the Senior Landside Agent must exercise sound judgment across tasks, resolve conflicts effectively, and build lasting positive relationships based on trust and responsiveness. Strong collaboration with other operations team members is critical to successfully meet the division’s goals. Additionally, the Senior Landside Agent supports security operations, traffic and curbside management, and may conduct training for new agents. The role requires adaptability to various weather conditions and physical activity such as prolonged standing, walking, and occasional lifting of light objects.
Applicants are required to hold at least a Bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as Aviation Management, Airway Science, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Business or Public Administration, or related disciplines. However, professional experience directly linked to airport operations, security, or customer service may be considered as a substitute for formal education on a year-for-year basis. Ideal candidates possess a valid Texas Class C driver’s license and are capable of passing stringent background checks and maintaining federally mandated security clearances. Preference is given to those with experience in aviation operations or related security and emergency management roles, especially in fast-paced or high-pressure environments.
