The role of Chef at Canteen is a full-time position based in Winston Salem, North Carolina. The Chef is primarily responsible for directing, coordinating, and evaluating kitchen and food-production operations, ensuring efficient and high-quality food service. This position operates predominantly between 6:00 am and 2:30 pm, with variations in schedule discussed during the interview process. Compensation ranges from $17.50 to $20.00 per hour. Candidates applying for this role must have prior kitchen experience, as the job requires supervising and participating in food preparation, cooking, and service activities. The Chef leads hourly kitchen staff through interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, performance reviews, and disciplinary recommendations to maintain a professional and productive team environment. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with food handling and sanitation standards, maintaining proper food quality, presentation, portion control, and serving temperatures. The Chef also manages inventory control by tracking food usage, waste, and consumption, as well as receiving and inspecting incoming products and supplies to ensure quality and appropriate stock levels.
