The Catering Sales Manager plays a pivotal role in driving the company’s revenue and ensuring the seamless execution of catering events. This position oversees the entire sales process from the first client interaction to follow-up after the event, ensuring exceptional service at every stage. The role demands a blend of sales expertise, organizational capabilities, and a thorough understanding of the catering industry to succeed. The Catering Sales Manager works closely with the culinary team, event coordinators, and other departments to ensure all client needs are met and events go off without a hitch. Responsibilities include proactively identifying potential catering clients, building and maintaining a robust pipeline of leads, and conducting persuasive sales presentations and negotiations. The manager is also expected to prepare comprehensive catering proposals, contracts, and pricing details while striving to achieve and surpass company sales targets and revenue goals.
In addition to sales and business development, client relationship management is a major component of the role. The Catering Sales Manager must establish strong relationships, understand client preferences, and promptly address inquiries and special requests, delivering outstanding customer service from initial contact through event completion and beyond. Effective coordination with event planners is vital to ensure flawless event execution, including organizing logistics such as equipment, staffing, and setup. The manager oversees event timelines and guarantees that all event phases run smoothly.
Beyond direct client and event management, this role supports marketing and promotional activities aimed at enhancing the visibility of catering services. The Catering Sales Manager participates in industry trade shows, networking events, and collaborates on marketing materials and online content creation to attract new business. Accurate record-keeping and data analysis are also essential, requiring maintenance of sales activity logs and client interactions, presentation of sales performance reports to management, and analysis of market trends and competitors to refine pricing and strategies.
The ideal candidate for this role holds a bachelor’s degree in business, hospitality, marketing, or a related field, though equivalent experience is also considered. Proven experience in catering sales or related sales roles is required, along with strong interpersonal and communication skills. The candidate should also demonstrate excellent organizational and time management abilities, familiarity with catering industry trends, and proficiency in industry-standard tools such as Marriott CI/TY, Microsoft Office, and sales software. Exceptional negotiation and presentation skills complete the profile needed to thrive in this role.
Working conditions can be physically demanding, involving standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds, mostly in an interior hotel environment.
