The position of Catering Sales Manager is available at the Monterey Beach Hotel in Monterey, CA, under the Highgate Hotels brand. This role is a full-time, yearly salaried position focusing on cultivating new catering accounts, maintaining excellent client relationships, and consistently exceeding revenue targets. The Catering Sales Manager is expected to possess a strong knowledge of wedding services and a robust ability to prospect new sales opportunities that align with the hotel’s goals. Beyond sales, this role involves coordinating and servicing client functions, ensuring customer satisfaction, and maintaining profitable operations with high-quality product and service delivery. Candidates must be adept at problem-solving within client relations and event management, showcasing their capacity to handle complex scenarios gracefully while maintaining professionalism and efficiency.
In this role, the Catering Sales Manager will prepare timely reports, respond promptly to catering inquiries, and leverage the Partnership Agreement to meet diverse client needs effectively. A comprehensive understanding of hotel operations—including guest services, reservations, housekeeping, audio-visual services, accounting, restaurants, bars, and engineering—is essential to facilitate seamless event coordination and client satisfaction. The manager will interact with outside planners and vendors, maintain pricing integrity while proposing upscale menus, manage existing accounts with proactive client re-solicitation, and collaborate with other Food and Beverage managers to address arising issues. The responsibility extends to managing the function diary, optimizing event space utilization, and assisting staff during functions to ensure success. Trained in departmental and hotel-wide protocols, the Catering Sales Manager will also participate in operational programs and contribute to planning holiday and special events in conjunction with the Director of Catering. Client feedback will be used constructively to continuously improve service quality and operational efficiency.
- At least 4 years of progressive experience in a hotel or a related field
- Or a 2-year college degree and 3 or more years of related experience
- Or a 4-year college degree and at least 2 years of related experience
- Proficient in Windows, company-approved spreadsheets and word processing
- Proficiency in Delphi preferred
- Flexible and able to work long hours
- Ability to exert medium work including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times
- Effective communicator both verbally and in writing
- Strong listening and problem-solving skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize functions
- Attend all required meetings and trainings
