The role primarily involves operating a cash register and electronic scanner to itemize and total customers' purchases, manage payments, and ensure that products are properly bagged with courteous customer service. As a cash register operator, the individual will interact directly with customers, handling a variety of products ranging from dry groceries and produce to meat and frozen goods. This position demands attention to detail, accuracy in processing financial transactions, and adherence to company policy. This role requires responsibility in front-end duties such as merchandising check-stand items like newspapers and candy, maintaining knowledge of store programs and product locations, and communicating ongoing promotions and loyalty programs to customers. The associate will also ensure compliance with store policies regarding security, cash handling, product safety, alcohol and tobacco sales, and sanitation. Maintaining cleanliness and stock in the department is an essential part of this role, along with following all personal protective equipment (PPE), safety, food safety, and guest experience guidelines. Occasionally, duties may extend to assisting with stock replenishment or performing tasks in other departments to enhance customer experience.
