The Bartender role is a dynamic and customer-focused position responsible for welcoming guests, preparing and serving a variety of beverages including alcoholic drinks, and providing exceptional customer service. The role emphasizes both the technical aspects of mixing drinks according to specific recipes as well as creating a welcoming atmosphere for patrons. Bartenders at HMSHost are experts in the knowledge of beer, wine, spirits, and cocktail preparation, ensuring all beverages are crafted to the highest standards with a strong awareness of product presentation. Bartenders engage directly with customers to take orders, recommend beverage options, and up-sell menu items to enhance the guest experience and drive sales. They operate cash registers, manage payments securely and accurately, and adhere to company policies on alcohol service and safety protocols. Especially important is their role in identifying and managing situations involving intoxicated guests to ensure the safety and comfort of all customers. This position also involves maintaining cleanliness and organization of the bar area, ensuring stock levels are adequate to meet customer demand, and complying with health and safety regulations. The role typically reports to a Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager, or General Manager, depending on the location. The position is non-exempt, indicating that it may include hourly wage and potential for overtime compensation. Bartenders are expected to perform all other responsibilities as assigned by management, contributing to smooth daily operations and a positive team environment. This job requires a mix of interpersonal skills, technical knowledge, and physical stamina. Ideal candidates will have at least one year of bartending experience or related hospitality experience in fast-paced or high-volume dining environments. The ability to communicate effectively with both customers and colleagues, maintain a friendly and enthusiastic demeanor, and handle transactions accurately are essential aspects of the role. Additionally, candidates must meet state requirements regarding the legal age for serving alcohol and be able to handle the physical demands of the position, including lifting up to 40 pounds and frequent hand immersion in water and cleaning solutions. • Must meet state minimum age for serving alcoholic beverages
• at least 1 year of closely related bartending experience
• knowledge of beer, wine, and spirits including preparation and presentation
• ability to interact with the public and coworkers in a friendly, enthusiastic and outgoing manner
• ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions and policy documents
• ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
• cash handling and customer service experience preferred
• frequently immerses hands in water and water diluted with chemical solutions
